Identity Theft Prevention Tips
Protect valuable documents. Shred unneeded invoices and expired credit, debit and ID cards. "Dumpster diving" is a treasure trove for thieves!
Never write PIN numbers down. Use numbers that you can memorize but not simple ones.
Never give sensitive numbers over the phone such as social security numbers or bank accounts unless you are totally confident it is for a lawful purpose.
Twist the skimming device on the front of every ATM you use. If it is loose, report it to authorities immediately and do not use it. Also, remember to cover your fingers while you type in your PIN
Get regular credit history checks. If you notice something suspicious, contact the appropriate authorities.
Safeguard your purse and wallet. Don't keep social security cards or numbers in your wallet and purse.
Never mail outgoing mail in a rural stand alone mailbox. The flag in the "up" position is a signal to a thief that there is mail inside!
